Public bug reported:

After the fresh installation of Feisty Fawn (7.04) and the first reboot the
automatic filesystem check for the root partition failed (ext3).
So the system asks for the root password, but the echo is enabled so the clear
password could be read on the screen. After pressing
enter without entering the password, the echo is disabled.

Another thing: The Installer does _not_ prompt for a root password during
installation, but when the filesystem check fails during boot,
the system prompts for it. How should a "new linux user" react to this? (I set
the root-pw before the first reboot manually).

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
