relevant.

Instead of logging out and in again, you can simply restart the gnome-
panel to get your applets back:
1. Open a console window
2. Enter the following command: killall -SIGHUP gnome-panel
3. This should make your panel vanish and come back after a few seconds with
all your applets.
I had to use
Solved for me now... I ran into some problems with another application
and noticed that I had some directories in my home folder that belonged
to "root". After I had corrected this, my panel applets also started
working again. Perhaps this works for you too.
