I AM misconfigured! Run update-manager, click "Settings", click the
"Updates" tab, and adjust the "Notify me of a new Ubuntu version:"
Choices are Never/For long-term support versions/For any new version.
Changes take effect on an update-manager restart..

Whenever I start "soffice" (by typing "soffice", by clicking on the
"LibreOffice Writer" icon, or double-clicking on a file and choosing
"Open with Libre Office writer"), I see the splash screen, and my entire
session locks up. Not even the clock in the upper right hand corner
I've noticed that the HPLIP Status popup displays the correct queue,
user and job name.
I edited my /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, and changed all 4 lines from
"JobPrivate default" to "JobPrivate all", then did "sudo service
cups restart", and the problem remained. "lpq" displayed

gnome-nettool as root, yet gnome-nettool has no way I can run it as root
