I'm getting a crash in f-spot when trying to download the first
thumbnail. Looks very similar to what fish reported on 2007-12-16 but
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04.1 fully updated. iBook G4 with Canon PowerShot

I tried f-spot under an updated Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex install with same
laptop (iBook G4) and same camera (Canon PowerShot G5) and it works just fine!

I just got the latest Dapper (PPC) network update and twice saw a
similar message as the update was being applied (see attached log).
I was surprised to see the problem in gtodo as it didn't obviously
appear to be part of the update. Further evidence:

The patch file mentioned above ("05_desktop-file.patch") fails to patch
my gtodo.desktop file.
After a little scouting around I found that my copy of gtodo.desktop is

All the logs attached are from 2.6.32-16 where everything works. As
noted above, 2.6.32-17 fails to mount the root file system and thus no
logs are available from the failure.

The only fly in the ointment is that under KMS all the windows are
missing their window manager decorations and the task bar (at the
bottom) is empty regardless of how many windows are open on a given
desktop. I guess that's a different bug, though.

When I first tried to re-update by 'check'ing again, update-manager
crashed lp517464. Next time I re-ran update-manager it told me there
were problems with the packages and offered to perform a partial
distribution upgrade (3 packages removed, 6 new packages installed, 15

By the way, in the situation described in comment #6 above, I did hear
audio in the checkbox test where it plays a sound file to the default
output--but only because I didn't follow the test directions and
modified my default audio settings. To wit, I unchecked mute on output
and increased volume
