Title:
Can't control display backlight in 24.04 on Dell A
If i am correct, linux-generic-hwe-22.04 now offers 6.8.0-40-generic
instead of 6.5.xx but sadly no dell-uart-backlight kernel module is
present.

I think you are right. But maybe in time we might be lucky and noticed
by developers for a fix ;-)
But i dont think DELL AIO are very popular. So...

I am fine with mine for now. But what i was saying is that if there were
more users of DELL AIO with Ubuntu it might be easier to notify the devs
about this bug and others :)

Hi there,
Same for me using Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS with my Dell Inspiron 5400 AIO.
Last kernel tested is linux-generic-hwe-22.04, so 6.5.0-41 at this time, i cant
adjust brightness. The slider is no longer visible.
So for now i stick with 22.04 and 5.15 GA kernel. As everything is
working well with
@ heynnema
I'havent checked /sys/class/backlight wile i was using 6.x kernel.
With 6.x kernel, adding acpi_backlight=vendor" to /etc/default/grub did not
fixed things for me.
Also tried :
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"
and
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAU
Here is the result of the ls command :
ls -alR /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/ | grep dell
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 69057 juin 3 12:09 dell-smm-hwmon.ko
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 juin 28 18:25 dell
/lib/modules/6.5.0-41-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/dell:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 95489 juin
Using 5.15 kernel :
There is in /sys/class/backlight a dell_uart_backlight folder with 10
items in it.
Not sure it's really a folder, more a link to an other folder as i see this in
Nautilus properties :
../../devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0A08:00/device:3a/DELL0501:00/backlight/dell_uart_b
Yes that's it.
Bug seems clearly related to use of 6.x kernel no matter the system
version as i am using Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS and you are using a newer OS
version.

I personally did not try to install 23.04 and anything above 22.04 LTS.
Just 24.04 with a live usb and the bug was present.
At the moment every version of 6.5 kernel i updated to broke the
brightness slider. Maybe i missed a few version as for me, using the
5.15 GA kernel is good for now.
I hope
Hi,
I confirm that, at least for my configuration (Dell Inspiron 5400 AIO), kernels
6.5 and 6.8 breaks display brightness controls.
Tested 22.04.4 LTS linux-generic-hwe-22.04, so 6.5.0-41 at this time, and 24.04
with a live USB (so 6.8 kernel) i cant adjust brightness. The slider is no
longer
