FWIW, _how_ we fix the bug will be transparent to the end user but not
being able to use their fingerprint scanners is _VERY_ visible. It
makes Ubuntu look bad, no matter where the actual fault lies for the

Ummm... that might not be the only issue here. My situation has
improved a little since I went through the mind-numbing pain of getting
the ATI driver running correctly in Kubuntu. Not really as intuitive as
one might think... :-/
However, even though my monitor doesn't cut the panel off anymore

I have the exact same problem with an ATI card outputting to my wide
screen TV over HDMI. Cuts off most of the trash icon on the right side
of the bottom panel. I'm using an Asus M2A-VM HDMI motherboard which
has an integrated ATI Radeon X1250-based (PCI-e) graphics card. My TV
is a Samsung 1080

This has supposedly been fixed in the Alpha4 release. I tried
downloading the Maverick package to test the fix but GDebi fails
silently (as near as I can tell). Could we get the new version in the
10.4 repositories to see if it fixes the problem? Thanks!
