I've created a slightly-modified version of marmuta's patch which
changes the default synchronization mode to 0 (no sync), rather than

Sometimes moving the mouse between monitors will interrupt the screens
dimming, sometimes not. When not, a keypress will. Unable to test on
newer releases at this time. I should state that compiz is enabled and I
have not tried it disabled yet. I have another issue that I believe
I'm experiencing this as well. EEE PC 900, fresh install of Ubuntu
8.04.1.. After a reboot, WPA2 resets to WPA, and I have to re-enter the
password and set it to WPA2 again if I want to connect to the same
network I was connected to before the reboot.

I can confirm that this bug also applies to the Edgy final release. I
tried booting: "ubuntu-6.10-desktop-i386.iso" on my system this morning
(downloaded yesterday), and observed nothing but a blank screen,
followed eventually by a "Sync. out of Range" message from my monitor.
Judging by the CD-R
I can confirm this cosmetic problem is still present in the Edgy final
release.
(there are much BIGGER problems with the Matrox drivers in Edgy, though

Following more research I concluded that the problem was probably caused
by Gutenprint which which is a beta version in 6.06.1. Difficulty has
been resolved by changing to 6.10
