Did you manage to install the driver on 8.10? My experience is:
in 7.10 this stk11xx driver was not part of the kernel itself so I installed it.
in 8.04 I assume that the driver was included in the kernel because the webcam
was working from the beginning.

webcam green light will show while the computer is still loading for a
sek and then go off. In 8.10 it doesn't light up at all. I tried to

I believe i have the same issue with ASUS s96s and the HDA Intel sound
card. Good sound in 8.04, in 8.10 the internal mic doesn't work (or it's
volume is to low). I had to revert to 8.04 but I still ahve 8.10 and
I'm willing to provide more info.

Mouse was not moving.
Caps Lock LED was not blinking.
No screen updates I think. I'm not sure about the clock but I'm sure my System
monitor censors for the CPU stopped moving.
I saw no video memory corruption.
I don't know about ssh, but I couldn't start a non graphical terminal with
Ctrl+Alt+F2
I can confirm that the rotating Cube is the source of the problem. It
only eats pixels on the left and the right side of the screen and not on
the top or bottom. This bug makes playing games hard/impossible because
the screen doesn't scroll. Please, please fix in 8.10.

kernel that is 9.04, but it is a NIGHTMARE. I haven't seen the linux

I can reproduce it. I believe that the gnome-panel somehow doesn't
trigger the unhide when the mouse reaches the end of the screen too
fast. I got this behaviour after an update to 8.04. The same pannel was

I actually grabbed revision 99 from the svn. This is the future version
2.2 of the driver and I had no problems compiling it. It now works. I
will try to soon test if maybe the webcam works out of the box on 9.10.

This one is not really reproducible for me. I'm now running 9.10 and
this Xorg crash happened only once. I think we can close this bug. I

Hi Amol,
Thanks for the help but this did not work for me. In skype when i start
my video to someone else it is just a black picture. There are no errors
or anything. The green light on the webcam lights up, but the picture is
just black :(.

Very interesting. At first when I got the bot message I was thinking no
way the thing will get fixed by updating to the latest kernal, but it
