I am running AMD 64 with 32 bit Gutsy upgraded from Feisty. I also take about
45 seconds to go from login to desktop. I have 2 gig ram and Nvidia 7800 GT

the system to its original configuration and time it. So, undoing the

it after a short delay as a Canon Digital IXUS 750 (PTP mode).

Here is what I found out in case anyone else looks at this bug report:
Mail notification options including playing sounds are now handled in
the mail notification plugin config page. So you have to go to
Edit/plugins, scroll down to the mail notification plugin and select the

on March 21, it would correctly identify and download pictures from my
canon SD550 using g-thumb. All daily builds since then have no response

I discovered I had weather screenlets in ~.screenlets directory. These
are used instead of the ones in /usr/share. When I removed the
clearweather screenlet from my home directory and modified the one as
noted above, it started working again. Thanks.

ghostscript (gs) takes 99% of cpu and the document stays in the print
que for over 60 seconds. This does not happen when printing plain text,
which prints almost instantly.

I was printing some 8 1/2 x 11 color photos today and they sat in the
print que for 4 mins. 30 seconds before sending to the printer. This
really is not very usable for prints this large. I have not made any

This bug continued even after the wine repo's upgraded to version
0.9.38. This is now a known bug that is actively being worked on by the
wine devs. I have since turned off the wine repos, uninstalled wine and
then installed the version (0.9.33) from the Feisty repos. This has
fixed the problem.
You should be aware that there is an open bug report on this issue at
wine.hq it is bug number 8085. There is active work on resolving this
going on right now. When the Ubuntu repos update their wine version, it
will need to jump several versions to avoid this bug as it appears
starting in 0.9.34
The bug I reported was only occurring while running the Feisty beta live CD
from March 30, 2007. I have since installed from that beta to a spare hard
drive and the restricted drivers manager worked as expected and I was able to

After reading the error message, I navigated to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
to to see the folder named "untitled". I discovered the folder was
actually named "untitled folder" with a space. After removing this
empty folder, Mozilla uninstalled without further error massages using
the command: sudo
Mplayer and VLC for that matter, won't play over a smb share in Edgy or
Feisty. The only way I could ever get them working was to do a nfs
share. Totem will play over smb, but often with reduced performance
(video stumbling, etc.)

I found the problem. It was my fault. I needed to use some extra
commands from an earlier install in 9.04 to get cheese to run picking a
certain input from a tv tuner card I have and that was in
/home/marty/bin/cheese. When I did the clean install of 64 bit karmic,
I just copied over my ~bin dir
I have since done a clean install of karmic 64 bit and it also exhibits
the same problems as the Original Post.

My work around for this is now to simply log off and log back on after
rebooting. Since I rarely restart this machine, I don't have to do this very
often. I found that I do not have to do the killall gnome-power-manager step,

have the same corruption problem. Setting to EXA resolves the
corruption, but the system becomes so slow to refresh windows, that I
went back to the stock XAA acceleration. I would prefer to see a fix in

I just discovered that if I restart Evolution and hit Ctrl-M to hide the
incorrectly sized message preview and then hit Ctrl-M again to bring it
back, it now displays the previously selected settings.

I never thought of this as a problem. The old behavior resulted in a
very nice 3D effect of the top panel floating above the window title
bar. It does not obscure it at all. See attached screen shot.

The latest gstreamer updates applied today which have a patch to fix sub
titles in Totem did not have any effect on this bug. Totem still grays
out and refuses to play DVD's. If I open the video_TS folder on the
DVD, I can use Totem to play all the vob files without problems.

This is a more elegant work around than the one I was using (see post
#9), so I have switched to using it. Thank you.

I am now updated to the release candidate through October 23, 2009.
Gthumb will now work correctly 2 times after a reboot. 3rd and
subsequent attempts default back to the error as noted above.
Logging off and back on does not help. The error appears on the first
attempt. Only rebooting the mac
