This problem was resolved for me after installing the "libhal1" and
"hal" both version 0.5.14-0ubuntu6" update (and then reboot).
Even more previously added icons to the "indicator applet" which
dissapeared after upgrade from 9.04 to 10.04 now also suddenly appear

It is not problem in the absence of codec. Problem is that ffmpeg cannot
find them.

the audio work only if AudioDevice is set to sdl but even with this
configuration the sound is very noisy, as previously stated by dmellas:

browsing the avidemux forum i found this post:

that suggests a patch that could solv this problem.
i'm not a developer, and i never used svn, so trying to compile avidemux

in my case it was problem with driver for wimax.
i removed 2 files (i2400*) and i do not have this problem more

I already forgot about this bug.
in Grub 2 you need to modify file: /etc/default/grub. you need to add
i8042.reset in line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
Example of my line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet nosplash i8042.reset"
in grub1 i8042.reset worked too.
