[Bug 46758] Re: [dist-upgrader] User should be prompted to update *before* the upgrade process starts

2009-03-18 Thread Lars Wirzenius
I attempted to reproduce this. Turns out it is not so easy, with stuff moved from archive.ubuntu.com to old-releases.ubuntu.com, and update- manager telling me at every turn to upgrade to a newer release without giving me the opportunity to do so. >From what I can read from the current source code

[Bug 47648] Re: could not calculate upgrade with old kernel package installed

2009-03-18 Thread Lars Wirzenius

[Bug 67090] Re: On upgrading to Edgy from Dapper, confusing kernel selection

2009-03-19 Thread Lars Wirzenius
I believe we now have reduced the number of kernel flavors so that this bug doesn't occur anymore. intrepid has -generic, -server, and -virtual kernel flavors, jaunty seems to add -rt. Upgrades from release to release would seem to me to retain the user's preferred flavor. Thus, I'll close this bug

I'd like to have this, too. In fact, I think the installed system should, by default, be silent. Computers should be quiet unless told to make noise. There are all sorts of situations in which it is a real bother that Ubuntu systems make noises by default. And other computers, too. I've been woken
