suspend then Xorg crashes and I am returned to the ligthdm login screen.

This is already fixed in git master, see commit
c1c0714e7a5d87ad7d85c3f812a1d19959713bc9 in https://github.com/lanoxx/tilda
It should be very easy to backport this to the existing version in ubuntu,
maybe someone with commit access chould cherrypick that commit and upload it?

I am experiencing this issue on ubuntu 12.10. I am connecting to a an
eduroam wireless network with WPA2 enterprise encryption and the
connection fails after a few minutes. Sometimes it does not connect at
all. Most of the times one of the following work arounds works but the
effect is only tempora
I also have this bug on Quantal, is there and chance the first could be
released in an Stable Release Update. This problem is quite annoying.

Ok, I figured it out. There is actually a simple fix for it:
just call this
panel_applet_set_background_widget(applet, GTK_WIDGET(applet));
//passing applet for the first and second parameter
when the applet is being initialized.
