We have confirmed that this problem is NOT a bug in KDE 4.1, it's a bug
in Strigi. The problem is that Ubuntu hasn't packaged the version of
Strigi that was made to be used with KDE 4.1, instead, the version of

I updated all the network-manager packages in Intrepid Propoosed and as
of right now this is fixed for me. I haven't tried Gnome yet, but I'm
logged into KDE and all the behaviour is correct. I'm not having any
issues with my network either.

I haven't had this problem in Intrepid for a very long time. After
recent updates, this bug is back and worse than ever. Every other flash
video I view is a grey box, and I have to do "killall firefox" and then
restart Firefox and restore the session to start seeing flash again.

Honestly, I've given up on this. The very fact that Kubuntu 9.04 was
released with such a HUGE bug further proves the third wheel status of
this distro. Ubuntu would never have been allowed out the door with such
a problem.

The updated package worked fine for me for a while, but now the new
package refuses to connect to my wireless network again. GNOME/Ubuntu
will work fine, but not Kubuntu/KDE. it looks like its broken again, at
least for me.

while OpenGL games are running. As far as I know this has not been
corrected, it needs to be set up so that when OpenGL games run, desktop
effects pause so as not to drop performance. There is an option within

kwalletmanager it asks for a master password each time and I prefer not

release, especially since it worked before. In my tests, the new network
manager can't connect to ANYTHING that takes a password, it's completely

I don't understand, whether you're supposed to do something or not
doesn't matter as Linux is about choice. Besides, this is something that
has always worked fine for Kubuntu's entire existence and is only broken
now, so why is it "invalid"?

With all due respect, sudo working in every version of KDE from KDE 3.5
onwards is not a coincidence. This is a regression. Whether or not I am
supposed to be doing this, if it's a good idea, or if it breaks other
things is irrelevant, something broke and all regressions may affect
other things. I
I think the best solution is to move EXT3's behavior in this regard to
EXT4, then ask developers to use the new style to ween them off of the
old style little by little. Asking all applications to change isn't
going to happen, and using the EXT3 save style is the only forseeable
way right now.
If 9.04 ships with this bug, EXT4 should be altogether removed or at
least not advertised in the feature list. Shipping a broken EXT4 with
9.04 would be a VERY bad move, and the press would have a field day.

Per bug # 274203, the crashing part of this bug was fixed. No longer
does any of the action keys crash X.
However, the D-Pad still controls the mouse cursor by default which
shouldn't be. This makes the D-Pad controls not work in MAME. The only
thing left for this bug to be closed is for the gamep

This is still a problem here. Knetworkmanager and gnome's network
manager both start up when I log into KDE. I also have Gnome installed
too. I attached a screenshot of the taskbar, where you can see both
icons. Only knetworkmanger should start with KDE and only gnome's
network manager should start
I'm really curious why the new xorg would be considered if it broke
joysticks. Not being able to use joysticks is a HUGE problem. For most
of us, the work arounds are fine. (They don't work for me though). Since

So I guess support has already ended for Hardy? That was fast. I thought
it was supposed to be an LTS release.

I'm confirming that adding the line "ifconfig wlan0 down" fixed this
problem for me as well. I'm using a Gateway M-7315u laptop.

The work around adding "ifconfig wlan0 down" worked for me, but after
the updates last night, that work around stopped working.

I added the line to alsa-utils but it didn't work for me after the first
time. Can someone please look at the alsa-utils file I have attached and
let me know if I did it right?

I downloaded the latest daily image for both 32-bit and 64-bit and
tested my gamepads on each one.
I can confirm that I have no problems on the 32-bit version.
With the 64-bit version, the bug is NOT fixed for me. I confirmed that I
have "xserver-xorg-input-evdev_2.0.99+git20080912-0ubuntu5_amd64

tested my gamepads on each one.
