Hourra! Hourra! I succeeded! I was FINALLY able to make my laptop
completely silent! And have its drive spin down (and stay in sleep) for
the first time of my life! ^_^
What I did:
1- make the pdflush intervall MUCH longer. 10 minutes instead of 5 seconds

Not sure, reopening. Yesterday I tested the gnome ubuntu 7.04 liveCD and
it was fine (I think), but today I booted the gnome gutsy livecd for
tribe 1, and this reappeared.

I must add some pressure here. Very few are the third party icon themes
which "inherit" Human or Tangerine, but A LOT of icon themes inherit

Yeah, that's why I call it a "workaround" "in some cases" and not a

Just sharing a workaround for those of you who want to keep the same IP
all the time but still use network-manager (I like network-manager).
This is a workaround and not a solution to the problem:
telling your router/DHCP server (if you have one) to "reserve" an IP
address based on the MAC address
I have tested on Feisty. This is the output if I stop syslogd
beforehand. Wtf is going on with pdflush? I have 768mb of RAM and only
1/3 is in use, from what I understand that thing is there to flush
processes to the hard drive? Oh yeah, and my computer was completely
idle while doing the tests.

I've become so desperate with the state of local file sharing that I
actually discovered "gshare", which is a built-in FTP using Avahi. Works
perfectly, and no headaches. Of course this is no solution for samba,
it's just a workaround in the meantime:

still is not gone. Any dev knows what actually could be going on here?
