The implementation uses libsmpeg. So it has to be a MPEG-1 file.
Sorry, it is the easiest way to play a video in a SDL application.

What sample rate are you using in Wesnoth?
Wesnoth allows to set the sample rate in:
Preferences -> Sound -> Advanced Options -> Sample Rate
Sample rate 44100 is without any cracking for me (updated Hardy, ALSA,

Sample rate 22050 has cracking.

Have seen the same problem here on my HP Compaq 8510w. While downloading
updates (using the update manager) the filesystem suddenly locked up
(switched to read-only mode). At that moment I had one virtual machine
(VirtualBox) running as well, but I do not think think that's related to
the problem.
Hi,
I'm also having this issue. The output of dmesg:
138.288033] usb 2-10: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 17
[ 138.581980] usb 2-10: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 138.851273] phy10: Selected rate control algorithm 'pid'
[ 138.860059] Registered led device: rt7
Stopping avahi-daemon doesn't solve the issue for me.
Connecting to a FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 (mode 'WPA+WPA2') keeps asking
for authentication and does not result in a connection.
>From same machine connecting to a Linksys WRT54GC (WPA2 Mixed mode)
makes a connection that is working for a little
Just tried it, but kernel 2.6.24-21 doesn't solve it for me.

Alexander, as you could have read in this thread I'm one of the people
who reported suffering from this bug before. Your suggestion in this
thread to upgrade from the test archive only made the situation worse.
Opening a new bug for the continued problem doesn't make sense to me.

Thanks! 'noapic' works for me.
Nevertheless a fix in the kernel for this machine would still be the
real solution, so that new users can work with this type of laptop just
from a normal install.
