Ah Sorry Ace, I forgot one last step. You need to go into the web based
account and enable pop access. You I believe have to be in the old style
interface and then go into options. It's a long while since I've done it
but it's in there.
I've checked and for me it's in Options -> POP3 & Forwarding

even exist anymore. I'm too cheap to pay for a "Free" mail account, I
really don't have it. I've heard though that some regions don't have
it.. .which seems hard to believe. But I have two friends and they have
enabled it also, I

Followed official Gutsy upgrade procedure, ie. via Adept Manager.
Initially the Update Manager GUI crashed, I couldn't capture any logs
from this as it killed entire GUI. I had to restart it at which point it
completed correctly. Then everything appeared fine. The brightness does

Ok I have fixed this again. It seems to be when I enable the unsupported
and backports repos that a newer version of kdelibs installs which fixes
the issue. So fixed again for me. Here's the sample packages installed:
17 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

Update for this. I've booted and tested the function keys for LCD
brightness during the bootsplash and they work. Once X/KDE has loaded it
no longer works, so it appears to be something in KDE not allowing it
too work.

Hi Gareth,
I'm afraid I've no longer access to this server again and it did not
happen again. I'd say it can be removed/marked solved, either due to
strange circumstances at the time or a fix in a new update.
Thanks,
