I found the binaries and tested them. At least in my case there is no
improvement whatsoever. Still get dummy connections without DNS server.
The only difference I can notice is in syslog where the following lines
are not appearing any more.

I can confirm this bug. I have also tested two different laptops (Dell

1- Get a proxy, or make your own with a ssh tunnel (ssh -D 9090 u...@server.com
will give you a socks5 proxy on port 9090, localhost)
2- Configure proxychains to use that proxy (edit /etc/proxychains, set the
proxy up, and disable the DNS proxyfication, it usually doesn't work well, it's
David, did you modify the gconf key /apps/brasero/config/dao_flag to be
false? That is the fix for this bug.

The sis190 driver generates a "PHY reset until link up" message on the
system logs every 5 or 10 seconds. That means that when you type 'dmesg'
there is A LOT of useless logs.
Cause: the network cable is not connected.
Fix:
Unload the current drivers:
sudo modprobe -v -r sis
Seems that there is also a workaround for this problem, using ethtool to
tell the driver no to log so many things. So the only question is : Is a
message telling you every 10 seconds that the cable is not plugged in
really needed?¿ should it be enabled by default?

Well, I disabled VBlank and got a boost, but it's still real slow:

I can confirm that, after a clean Jaunty install, the xserver-xorg-
input-synaptics package is NOT installed. I had to install it manually
to make my touchpad work.

I have a similar problem with a dell latitude e4300 and a belkin N1
router. The problem is limited to high bandwidth situations (e.g.,
playing youtube videos). The connection drops (although the network icon
status does not change) and then is again active in about one minute.

This is a regression from early Jaunty Alphas and Intrepid.
When you boot, the screen brightness is set up to the lowest value. This
remains like that in GDM, and is only set up to a reasonable value after
you login and see your desktop.

I can confirm this too. Ekiga crashes when you try to dial without
typing a number (the input box says "sip:" only). This is completely
reproducible.
