Amol, I just rebooted to see, and I can also confirm brightness is normal on GRUB and on the boot process until it loads the drivers. So I guess the problem is the same then.
** Description changed: This is a regression from early Jaunty Alphas and Intrepid. - When you boot, the screen brightness is set up to the lowest value. This - remains like that in GDM, and is only set up to a reasonable value after - you login and see your desktop. + When you boot, the screen starts at a normal brightness and stays that + way through GRUB, but becomes dark early in the linux boot process. + Specifically, when it says "loading hardware drivers", the screen + brightness is set up to the lowest value. This remains like that in GDM, + and is only set up to a reasonable value after you login and see your + desktop. For now, a workaround is to make the brightness higher with the brightness hotkeys on the laptop. I'm using an up-to-date Jaunty. Please ask for any information you think is necessary, I really don't know what thing is failing.
