Public bug reported:
System based on Asus P4S533 (SIS chipset) ran 6.01 LTS installed from
the Alternate CD due to use of reiserfs over software RAID 1. Decided
to upgrade to 7.10 via a clean installation from 7.10 Alternate CD image
after several other installations on other hardware went well.

failing the media integrity check. That media happened to be a copy of
a known good CD-R I burned directly from the iso available from the
download mirror. I wound up downloading the iso again and reburning an
image. That s
Managed to trace the "hang" late in the 7.10 installation process to a
faulty CD drive (6 month old LiteOn DVD+RW). Tried a spare (older)
Samsung unit and that completed the installation all the way through.
So, basically looks like the alternate installer doesn't deal so well
with flaky hardware.
I have 7.04 installed on two systems, one is a desktop using an Abit
IC7-G with two WD250's hanging off the Intel SATA controller in software
RAID1. The other is a server using an Asus P5W64WS with a PCIe-based
3Ware 9650SE 8 port card with two drives in RAID1 and the remainder in
RAID6 (read: no
