Traced the above errors to bad CDR media. One of the files (nis_*) kept failing the media integrity check. That media happened to be a copy of a known good CD-R I burned directly from the iso available from the download mirror. I wound up downloading the iso again and reburning an image. That solved the problems shown in the attachments.
However, now I have another issue. During the Select and Install software phase (the bulk of the work), it gets about 85% done and then asks for a "Media Change". The CD drive eject button doesn't respond and there's no way to try again or "Go back". It's asking for disc 20071016.1, but to my knowledge that's the name of the image that's in the drive. The only way to get out of this is to do a hardware reset of the system. My next step may be to upgrade to 7.04 first and then try a Synaptic / apt-get dist-upgrade. Slower than a manual install, but hopefully that will work. -- Install base software 7.10 Alternate failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155841 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
