Similar issue was reported to me by another user with many mirrors in
his configuration. I guess this is one of the glitches that were fixed
in the downloader code overhaul and maintainenance task optimizations
applied after 0.2.2.
Feel free to test the current version from Debian Unstable, but be

The problem was only partially solved with 360295. A fix in the libscg
of cdrkit-1.0pre5 has a better solution, no more stupid locking and

I am afraid the endless error log of the previous post would cause unnecessary

My brother got the same problem after upgrading from Dapper to Edgy.
There was no obvious reason, X just failed. Only closer analysis showed
what was going on, the link was pointing to /bin/true.
I assume that this may happened because he used apt-get and aptitude in
multiple runs, so some upgrade

My brother somehow managed to uninstall xserver-xorg during the upgrade.
This may have caused the trouble as well. However, after installing that
package, it now complains about "manual modifications"... "not replacing
/etc/X11/X" even with the dpkg-reconfigure command suggested in
Xorg.conf.
I think this is a dupe of bug 532353 and I think they are both actually
bugs of libc. I see no way for the input memory (string, regex_t
structure) to become corrupted, therefore it's likely to be some issue
with regex. Maybe it has some bug with internal memory managing for
repeated calls of regex

Really? I just nuked the backends_debian file and after restart of
acng... it still worked, just as requested in this task!
Could you try something? Put "Debug=5" into the first line (!) of
acng.conf and restart with the init script. And show the output. Mine
is:
# /etc/init.d/apt-cacher-ng resta
apt-cacher-ng does not share any code with apt-cacher

I tried to bring some light through code review, and there is nothing
suspicious at the first (and at the second) glance. The best theories I
have are: a) bug in one of the regex functions (libc issue), b) stack
corruption (might be detectable with lintian, not sure), c) some race in
thread destruc
