I have built some kernels based on the Intrepid -proposed kernel. If

ryanop, I used to have this problem, but the most recent update has
solved this. If I'm quick logging in, then I can normally just catch the
wireless trying to connect still, but if I take it a bit more leisurely,
then it's normally connected before I log in.

It also seems that you had a working Hardy system which broke when
updated to Inrepid. When the kernel was updated. So that very much
points at the kernel. Compiling the mainline kernel in (3) above would
help to confirm if it is a general 2.6.27 kernel issue or something
specific to the Ubuntu
Looking at that image you are hitting a very very early bug before
proper panic is even possible. That is pretty nasty.

I can confirm seeing the same symptoms as Donald, not due to fast user
switching.
When I apply the workaround, Network manager doesn't appear in the tray,
whereas it did before.

Also, I can get the tray icon to appear by running nm-applet, so that is
definitely a different bug to bug #284596.

This bug only manifests itself if the driver is loaded when the switch
is on. If the driver is loaded when the switch is off then further
on/off operations are successful.

Looking at one of my systems I also have seen a number of these.
Of particular note I have actually had one on the last Hardy kernel
where the messages are subtly different, so its not 100% clear if this
is completely new:

Can you have a look at the bottom of your dmesg and see what if anything
additional was reported there, that is the end of the output of the
dmesg command after you have run that sudo modprobe toshiba_acpi. And
paste anything you find into this bug for us.

The Clagary IOMMU is a feature of most of the x-series blades and
motherboards, which would likely include some used on the desktop. I
believe that the messages as reported above indicate that we did not
find a suitable IOMMU and that support has been disabled.
