I resolved this situation by locating the desired file
'iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode' in an older kernel's firmware folder:
/lib/firmware/old_kernel_name/

I simply copied it into the /lib/firmware/2.6.27-7-generic/ folder and
the message disappeared from dmesg.

I don't recall where I initially got the microcode file from, but I
think it was when I had wireless networking issues when upgrading to
Hardy, which I eventually solved by compiling a newer kernel than Ubuntu
offered.

If anybody has a reliable download source for this firmware, that would
greatly help this issue.

Also, is there some configuration file that prompts Ubuntu to search for
this firmware, which may not be common for all hardware?
