having had a look at cdrom_id it does appear at least to a cursory look
that cdrom_id is interrogating the CD drive directly using raw SCSI
commands over the sg interface. This implies at least that the drives
in question are returnig the information you are producing directly. It
is not 100% cle
I am not sure that this upstream fix will help. It makes the udev scan
effectively dependant on whether there is a current profile reported by
the drive. The drive in the cases we have documented are reporting a
profile, indeed if they were not we would not be attempting the TOC read
and later.

Ok here is the debdiff for Karmic to ensure we do not hibernate when
there is an installed but un-booted kernel. This simply checks for the
kernel flag file and inhibits the hibernate at the pm-hibernate level.
This will not be reported directly, a later update for gnome-power-
manager will fix th

good reasons for doing it as it currently works. In any case, thanks for

Just had a recurrance of this today on the latest updates. I do not
seems to be able to reproduce this with debugging enabled. As per your
comment re-raising priority as it is still occuring with the latest
code.
My feeling is that the bug occurs when there are near simultaneous
notifications fr
I think we are at that stage where some debug might he helpful. OSD is
clearly stuck somewhere for considerable time, that must be detectable
with some pretty simple additions.

This will not fix the lack of notification. That is triggered by what
appears to be a bug in gnome-power-manager, and I will file a new
Filed bug #374919 to cover the lack of notification of the hibernate
failure.

When the pm-utils scripts pm-suspend/pm-hibernate trigger a low-level
inhibit this triggers failures from hal back to gnome-power-manager
which do not contain any error strings. This is not handled by gnome-
power-manager and the erro
