actually, it may be related to apparmor and ssh. if i run the script
locally on one of my work machines (32-bit), it works fine. if i ssh to
the machine and run the script, the terminal locks up with 50% CPU
usage. i have to kill the process.

it looks like there are 2 problems here. if i remove everything java
from my work (32-bit) computer, the problem goes away (no more lockups).
that got rid of /usr/share/binfmts/jar, which i assume was the source of
the lockups. that's definitely a security issue because an unprivileged

also currently, the only thing that uses the indicator applet is the evolution
mail notifier, correct? all i see are disadvantages:
1. people who (for some reason) run evolution in KDE or other desktops
won't get new mail warnings.
2. it adds to the complexity of the panel.
3. it takes up prec
i have a question? why do we need both an indicator applet and a
notification area? i don't see a big difference between the two, and
things like new mail icons use to show up in the latter. is there a UI
spec i can read somewhere with a rationale for this?

exactly what the notification area is designed to do? and the spec for
putting stuff in the notification area is the same for KDE and other
desktops, so an application built for one desktop will still be
functional in another.
it routinely crashes for me in jaunty, taking any unsaved data with it.
bad enough i might clean reinstall jaunty to see if that fixes it...

time zones greater than UTC+12 during their daylight savings, which is
far fewer than affecting everyone in a minus time zone all the time
(half of the world, including the americas) as the previous code did.

yup, same here. if you look at 'dmesg' output, it says, "can not
initialize the device using windows driver". this worked fine in
Dapper, and still works in other distros (at least Suse). i had to
switch for the time being.

interrupt handling on edgy+ with some computers that prevents it from
trapping the power button properly. as a result, the dialog does not
come up no matter if you have the option set. if you press the power

there was a similar problem with Dapper where updating the BIOS fixed
it, but this is not it. as Jani reported above and i can confirm, this
problem is still there running with fully updated BIOS. i'm not an
expert at these things, but it looks like Edgy simply does not handle
interrupts properly

i also have a acer ferrari 4005. i've tried the stock 4318 card as well
as replacing it with a 4306 card and an intel card, none of which work.
all of these cards work with ubuntu on other computers. there is a
serious problem with interrupts on edgy amd64 and the acer ferrari which
cause the mini
yup. how do i get it added there?

same with my desktop on using ATHEROS chipset, 2GB ram, AMD Athlon 64,
updated DAPPER (AMD64). remove wpa_supplicant and the machine never
locks up.
also emachines laptop with BCM43xx chipset, 512MB ram, SEMPRON, updated
edgy (x86).
also acer laptop with BCM43xx chipset, 1GB ram, AMD Turion 64
No, it is NOT fucking fixed. I can't believe it's been OVER TWO YEARS
and no one has bothered to even look at this easily reproducible issue?
And because of it my (and who knows how many other people's) data is
hosed. What issues DO you investigate, if you don't investigate
corrupted file system

It probably won't work in a VM, because of the way a VM's virtual
storage devices work. They discard everything that's not being used at
that moment, otherwise you'd have to allocate the full size of the
drive. Thus, you probably couldn't have any defunct file systems
sitting around.

Yup, and I thank you for it. And if this bug does get fixed, I imagine
those people whose data won't be hosed as a result would thank you too.

If I interpret Whoop correctly, his problem was that he tried to install
Ubuntu to 2 separate machines while leaving his RAID /home partition
alone on each. The end result was the installer goofed
If you're going to fix this before the release, how about also fixing
bug 568183 / bug 191119 as well? Those bugs can actually destroy your
data on RAID partitions, even if the user did not elect to use the RAID
partitions during the install. This has been confirmed by several
people at this poin
