Finally this is fixed on my machine, thanks, A LOT.
Apparently it was upgrading mutter to the jammy-proposed version explicitly
that caused the dependency removing mess, so your command works fine and only
upgrade the necessary packages.

I updated to intrepid, and just installed linux-image-rt 2.6.27.3.4.
Nvidia kernel modules were automatically compiled (linux-restricted-module-rt
can not be updated anyway), and it worked perfectly with the latest version
(177.80).

there are two Xgl forks : XglX and Xegl... when whe do "sudo apt-get install

X nvidia module)... XglX catch all 2D and 3D operations of the X
Be aware that my fix is only a workaround because the libnvidia-wfb.so
shipped with nvidia-glx-* have to work in the following version, so if
anything is done by nvidia to fix their libnvidia-wfb.so the bug will

I recall that the workaround consisted in adding a random delay to the
apt-daily task, so that it would not happen *right* at startup.
How exactly this was done, unfortunately, I did write it down :-/ but I
think it was adding or creating the file ./system/apt
In my experience, on Gnome or KDE every GUI window (not only from Mozilla)
opens on whichever virtual desktop is current at the time the window opens. In

Uninstalling the nvidia binary driver (367.57) and moving back to
Nouveau "fixed" the problem for me. The reproducibility of this problem
seems to dependent on the nvidia video card model, as I have another
workstation with another nvidia card model and the other one had no
issue with the boot prom

I have a similar problem on a Dell Latitude E4310, and it appeared
around the same period (december 2010): my USB cordless mouse stopped
working intermittently, and plugin it out and back in does not always
solve the problem.
I attach a fragment of /var/log/syslog where
at 09:29:06 I plug the USB
Following my previous comment: this seems to be a hardware bug related
to the USB receiver itself. Apparently, when I push it as far as
possible into the USB plug, it goes *too* far and disconnects. If I pull
it a little, it reconnects.
Still to be confirmed next time I reboot on Windows (may take
I confirm that in my case, this was a hardware problem with the USB receiver
(same problem under Windows).
