failures to load the kernel driver. Because the GUI just tells you the
driver set is installed and nothing tells you if after a reboot that the
kernel driver is failing to load.

Newer Linux kernels have become pedantic about bandwidth requirements so
display cables that worked in older versions of Ubuntu may not work now.

(a) Remove the Nvidia driver as you did and use the open source 'nouveau'

It has never frozen for me before upgrading to noble.

Can this also serve as the FFe for intel-media-driver-non-free, since
they are the same source and differ only in a build flag, or should I
copy + paste this over there with the non-free build and install logs
(from the same PPA)?

Just a quick update, our client completed the PPA testing process on
their end.
They were able to use the PPA packages to perform deployments using the
newly added parameters.

I'm curious if you just started using sss_cache -E in 22.04, or was it
working before and now no longer works? There's a big jump between 22.04
and 24.04 so it would help to narrow down the problem space a bit.

My vote is to do a combination - if the version they have installed is
above 3.12, upgrade smoothly, otherwise allow the user to upgrade with a
y/n prompt and warning.

I add udev.log-priority=debug to kernel parameter to enable udev debug.
I notice that in /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules, condition test in
gdm_hybrid_nvidia_laptop_check had been fulfilled early then nvidia_drm
driver loaded. Then the prefer Xorg rule will be skip.
