can't load nvidia module itself, the X server just won't start.. The

Sitsofe, I tend to agree with your analysis. You can see above I have
suspicions about that change, but as you say, without comments it is

I'm using Ubuntu Feisty Fawn and f-spot 0.3.5 I have imported about 1000
photos mostly in Jpeg format. When I browse through my library zooming

I didn't get wlan0_replace, but I did have to remove iwl3945 and reinsert it
before I got wlan0 and wmaster0. I suspect that has something to do with
ipw3945 having been loaded previously. So, to recap:
sudo modprobe -r ipw3945
sudo modprobe mac80211
sudo modprobe iwl3945
sudo modprobe -r iwl39
On a hunch, I tried booting to the Gutsy daily-live CD of today (Sat Sep 1
2007).
This did not solve the issue.
However, I then tried repeatedly tapping CTRL-ALT-F1 during boot as to get to a
console, and then proceeded to stop GDM (sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop).
Then, I proceeded to remove the comp

It just blew up. I hadn't tested it much, and now I'm having trouble
removing the module, I don't have network access, and everything is
generally screwed up. Apparently wlan0 is in use and the kernel isn't

I had a long explanation queued up but basically the problem (at least
as an intel X user) was that a VT switch wasn't happening because
various suspend scripts weren't running. According to KeithP on
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2007-August/027115.html the
intel X driver doesn't like
Try running Thunderbird from gdb (the debugger). You may need to install
it:- "sudo apt-get install gdb"
Then do "gdb thunderbird" and wait until the crash.
In gdb type "bt" to get a backtrace and post that.

Ah, well. I found the cause of this.
It was due to the fact that I had the enigmail extension installed
without having GPG installed. An easy fix :)

kernel modules package. When I booted after installing this package it
seemed the audio channels were back to normal but I couldn't start X as
it said my nvidia kernel module failed to load. So it fixed audio

I'm not using synaptic, so I don't have those logs. I mostly upgrade via
'wajig daily-upgrade', which performs 'apt-get update && apt-get dist-
upgrade' for me.
I tried reverting acpi-support to version 0.96 (and rebooting): that
works around the problem for me.
