install Ubuntu. I had forgotten to format the swap partition (i.e. all I

This may have to do with ODF documents that have been created by
conversion from another format. I copied the contents of an offending
.ods spreadsheet to a new blank .ods file and this file opened from

I am very unconvinced about this (none implies that *authentication*

Don't know about LVM, but it certainly does not work with mirrored
disks using MD. The system is unable to boot because it can not find the
UUID before the MD device has been started. So the system just hangs
"waiting for root device..."

This is more properly addressed by bluez-utils bug #32415
The problem is likely a dbus interaction with gdm/x and it is probably
the bluez package's fault.
The bluetooth keyboard does not work in bluetooth mode in X at all.
If bluez is not started, it pretends to be a ps/2 or usb board, X is none
I can confirm the same behaviour in Dapper on Dell Latitude C840, P4
2.4, Intel 845 chipset and Fujitsu MHT2060AT hard disk.
Hard disk access subsystem is very slow with both -386 and -686 kernels.
`hdparm -tT /dev/hda` reports 3MB/s on average (DMA is on), but
fluctuates quite a bit, down to hund

I am an LVM user running edgy and the last kernel update seems to have
overwritten my /boot/grub/menu.lst file so it no longer boots my
machine. There are no LVM specific options left and it fails to boot.

I've had to reinstall Dapper since I filed the bug, and I cannot
recreate the bug now (thank goodness). Emulate3Buttons isn't specified
at all for my Touchpad (which is the only mouse I have), so it probably
wasn't specified when I had the problem. (It's not likely that I would
have changed it.)
The menu does not flicker. Strace shows the process in a quick loop
running stat() on files and doing poll() calls with short timeouts.
I'll attach a bit of strace output just in case that helps.

I already reported a crash installing Xubuntu. The crash occured in the GTK
front-end.
So I tried to install Kubuntu and get the same result with the exception this
time that the crash occured in the KDE front-end :
