I have the same problem on a Dell C640. Of course, the laptop has
several other ACPI problems that may be preventing the system from
overheating (See Bug #34155). The worst part is, the overheating
actually damaged my system's keyboard, killing the keys above the
hottest components.

I've got the same problem on Lenovo N100 in Gutsy.
In Windows It is ok. I think the problem is that Ubuntu incorrect manages fan
speeds.
After power on it works ok. But sometimes after sleep/hibernate it keeps cpu
fan at low level
and after some time computer shuts down due to overheat.

same here hp dv2120ca and it was an overheat mine has shutdown several
times, im just now using kgrellm to monitor the heat and wholy-crap my
gpu is at 80 with normal use 90 with beryl and 115 is i close the lid
even for ten minutes, kgrellm is also reporting huge cpu usage if i
close the lid.. cri
i have the same problem.. my laptop is hs compaq presario v3000.. amd ..
turion64 i guess.. my laptop is hot even when the lid is open .. not
that much.. but when i leave it untouch it gets hotter and even hotter
when i close the lid.. one thing that i saw happpen last two night is
that when i woke
