I'm going to wait for final build and release on 12.04, I need my my
main laptop working and I've literally been disconnected for around two
weeks on it while fiddling.

Okay, sorry. The 12.04 builds have been incredibly buggy on the BestBuy
disposable laptops.
I did manage to fix it though.
So here's the process.
First thing to install once in Unity is the restricted essentials
otherwise the OS dumps and dies when attempting to play an MP3 instead
of just fail
Thanks for reporting this. Could you clarify the scope of the bug? The title
says 'no sound' but playback tests succeeded and you reported a rhythmbox crash
while playing mp3.
Is the issue limited to rhythmbox? Just to mp3 files? Do you have sound before
the crash?
