Your printer has HWMargins: 18 36 18 9 points and havn't a full bleed mode.
It can't print in the last half inch.
If I'm right when printing the test page with acroread you should see
these margins.

Yes, popler is a fork of xpdf pdf rendering but by default they differ
for printing.
xpdf use its own functions aka pdftops and send a ps file.
evince copy the pdf, which is translated later by cups with gs.
And I made a mistake myself :)

xpdf doesn't use popler.
It'd be a cups or gs issue, or acroread resizing the output.
Can you post the output of
pdfinfo --box yourfile.pdf
and your printer driver name? ( I guess HP-DeskJet_3820-hpijs.ppd)
Are the pdf available somewhere legally?

Sorry, I meant not restricted to that printer. It seems to happen with
quite a few HP Deskjets. libpoppler1's version is 0.5.1-0ubuntu7 (this
being a bug report for Dapper, sorry for the confusion).
