This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

This issue happened exactly on Debian Squeeze: P4 2.6 GHz, 1 GB RAM, radeon
9200SE.
glxinfo produces a lot of "freeing invalid memtype".
Several 3D application like Scorched3d and dreamchess never work, exiting with
a segmentation fault.
After this, in dmesg I find:

- configured the gnome applet for a location so I could get weather info
- installed NTP support to set the system to sync with a time server
- closed rhythmbox (music/quit rather than just closing the window)

I'm seeing a problem that may be related. I can't seem to see anything
on my desktop at all, regardless of the desktop effects setting.
I've got the default background image of a clean install. Trying to
change it doesn't show anything. I also can't see any menus if I right-
click on the desktop,
I decided to turn off the graphical effects as they seem to be slow down
the old hardware unnecessarily. When I switched the "Visual Effects" to
"None", the black screen disappeared and the Desktop was shown. The
"Visual Effects" were working for my old gfx card "RV280 [Radeon 9200
SE]" in 9.04.

However, the desktop seems to be operational, because when I select
"Create Folder..." from the context menu and type "abc", I can find it
in the Desktop folder when looking into it via terminal.
Also when clicking right mouse button on the left side of the screen the
