I get this if I have any CIFS folders mounted. Does it every single time
unless I remember to manually umount the CIFS folders before shutdown.

Application and System Notifications -> Player Settings -> No audio
output.

Same to me. I use kubuntu 9.10 AMD64 on a Dell Studio. It was an
upgrade-installation from 9.04.
I've got two users: user1 has the problem as described above, user2 not (both
existed also before upgrade from 9.04)
As I played around a bit, I recognized that even some other
system-notifications -
I have this problem again after upgrade to KDE 4.4 beta2, on rc1 the
problem is still here.

According to triage in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201569 this
bug is caused by KNotify trying to play the logout sound even though the
sound system has been turned of for notifications. This causes the
logout/shutdown/rebott procedure to hang.
Using the default settings or removing the l
I got this problem in Kubuntu Jaunty with KDE 4.3 from PPA in one login! Other
logins logout normally.
Removing knotifyrc file fixed the problem for my problem user.
I think we need to add remove or repair knotifyrc file script into the deb
package for automatic solving this bug when upgrading to

Removing knotifyrc doesn't resolve the issue for me. Spoke to someone
(scottk) on irc of #kubuntu-devel and there is an intel related bug
which could be related to this. I run on Intel hardware.. see attachment
for lshw output

Confirming this on Kubuntu Jaunty with KDE 4.3 installed from PPA. The
first attempt to logout gets the confirm dialog; subsequent attempts do
not get the confirm dialog. There appears to be no way to troubleshoot
this bug. Shutting down from the command line works normally.
