Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed
in later versions of Ubuntu. It won't be fixed in previous versions of
Ubuntu because Ubuntu 8.04 has reached EOL as of May 9, 2013. See

After upgrading to intrepid I found that octave3 and at least all
octave-forge packages I rely on are available and working fine. If you
are stuck in Hardy with a semi-nonfunctional Octave it may be an idea to
upgrade.

I have upgraded my computer at work
to Hardy too early. At home I'm still on Gutsy with my Laptops, Server and

I tried to install octave-forge for octave 3.0 manually from sources but I've
got some errors.
Moreover, it is required to build the packages from octave shell instead
through a common Makefile, so the deployment of a deb package is quite
difficult.
