I tried to install octave-forge for octave 3.0 manually from sources but I've 
got some errors.
Moreover, it is required to build the packages from octave shell instead 
through a common Makefile, so the deployment of a deb package is quite 
difficult.
I dont want to corrupt the /usr tree with something that cannot be handled with 
apt.
I hope that Ubuntu team will provide a packaged version of octave forge and 
also a backport of 2.1 in order to maintain the compatibility.
Octave is one of the most diffuse replacement for matlab.

Actually i switched to Scilab (that's present in the repository) and I
feel it really comfortable.
