No, even in 8.10, pulseaudio seems to remember that rhythmbox output
should be sent to a particular destination even when the stream is
closed and reopened.

are not likely to create this issue, reassigning to pulseaudio

You are correct in how it works, however I see it as a bug because it
doesn't make any sense from a usability point of view. If you tell the
system that rb should be outputting to (say) your external sound card,
or another computer, you don't want it to revert when the track changes.

Thanks Eythian, I see what you mean, but you will have to convince me
this is a bug. You are routing an individual stream to a new location,
so when Rhythmbox opens a new stream for the next song (when not in
crossfade mode), the old routing isn't going to apply. That makes sense
to me.
