Thanks Eythian, I see what you mean, but you will have to convince me this is a bug. You are routing an individual stream to a new location, so when Rhythmbox opens a new stream for the next song (when not in crossfade mode), the old routing isn't going to apply. That makes sense to me.
If you want to permanently route Rhythmbox to a new destination, I feel like there is a more proper way, though unfortunately I don't know it!
