Problem also solved for me. Somehow my loopback device was removed from
/etc/network/interfaces. Adding the device again solved the problem.
I suspect it happend after a (broken) update of knetworkmanager. I would
suggest to mark this bug as solved. Thank you all for your helpl

a while back the problem 'randomly' disappeared for me. Do others still
have this problem? and no I am/was not using compiz; and i am/was using
kde3 not kde4.

Sorry for the late reply. After upgrade (2008-04-15) of the whole system, the
problem does still exist
Safe-mode option does not show any effect (4min load time until the safe-mode
dialog appears). No gnome support packages had been installed.
Purgin firefox and xulrunner and reinstalling it does
OK, i will try it today. Thanks for your support!
ps anyway I will try to reinstall the whole system then hardy final come..

it together with xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support if thats the case.

I'm sure, that it's not a performance or hardware issue..
Everything was Ok with KDE3 and beryl, compiz-fusion in gutsy.
But now, since upgrade to hardy I can't use FF3 anymore..
I will try to completely remove FF today, maybe it'll help.

Hmm.. I though and read somewhere, that it's possible to combine KDE4 (effects
off) with compiz.. But it doesn't matter actually.
Because Firefox hasn't worked for me in KDE4 also.
Now I'm using KDE4 with effects and Konq is OK. Firefox is broken too.

With KDE4 you cant have compiz as i recall it uses its own
desktop(effects) package Plasma i think but its been a while since i had
sat at my Ubuntu pc. What i meant was compiz and or KDE4s DE engine can
slow everything down as it uses alot of mem to run them. Is this

Also I don't believe, that KDE4 and compiz can make FF so slow..

Who is using KDE4 or KDE with compiz? if you are please use kde3 without
compiz and see if it helps. Compiz on KDE slowed down KDE same with KDE4
with the new graphical toys. Please make sure this isnt caused by those

I think I am having this same problem. I am using the latest hardy.
the 'safe mode' does not help. I am using kubuntu also. I takes about
10 min to open firefox, and then it is very unstable. if i click on any
thing in it takes another 10 minutes to complete that action. I have
atached my output
