Just did a printout to a HP4600DN with an fully up-to-date Hardy but
still with acroread 7.0.9 from medibuntu (v8+ sucks). As usual, it chose
wrong tray and wrong format.

I changed in /etc/default/locale and /etc/environment according to the
following:
$ cat /etc/default/locale
LANG="en_DK.UTF-8"
$ cat /etc/environment | grep LANG
LANG="en_DK.UTF-8"
LANGUAGE="en_DK.UTF-8"

Sorry, that was the Debian way.
First check which locale you currently have as your default by opening a
terminal:
$ locale
Then run:
$ sudo locale-gen nl_BE.UTF-8 (or whatever locales you want)
The above example is for Belgium, /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED lists all supported
locales.

I think Adobe Reader determines the paper size using the LC_MESSAGES variable.
Anyway, it looks like you locale is not set up correctly for your country
(assuming you live outside the US or Canada).
Please run the following command in a terminal and choose your correct locale:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfig

I added LC_PAPER="en_DK.utf8" to my ~/.gnomerc and exported that
variable and now eye-of-gnome had A4 as default. It also chose Tray 2
for reasons unknown to me :) This seems to be a workaround though, I
shouldn't be forced to do this manually, it should just work, right?
