note that if the -generic kernel works for you and the -386 kernel
doesn't, please just use the -generic kernel. You can even feel free to
uninstall the -386 version if you're not using it. The difference

machine also. Sound still works (although keeps getting set to muted on
each boot - a separate bug).
I can make networking work again by changing /etc/network/interfaces

I've got the same problem, suddenly the 2.6.22-12-386 kernel appeared
and not much works if I boot with that kernel. I'm curious why this
happened.

ipw3945 module seems to be missing (I can't even modprobe it).

And now the next upgrade, half a day later or so, broke X.org as well,
throwing me into "safe mode" for graphics at 800x600 and put my keyboard
to "us", from which I could not configure anything reasonable at all.
