I tried adding "irqpoll" and it doesn't boot.
At the first screen I pressed "F6" and added "irqpoll" to the options. I
then let it boot and I get the "Ubuntu" splash screen with the progress
bar. The rer bar moves back and forth in the progress bar for a few
second then the machine freezes.

In the output of dmesg I found "[ 107.044000] irq 11: nobody cared (try
booting with the "irqpoll" option)". Could you try booting from the
Live CD and appending "irqpoll" to kernel boot options? Thanks again.

I did more testing - the slow boot up only happens if ethernet is
connected. As noted befoer, killing wireless with "ifconfig down ra0"
restores normal speed. At that point ethernet seem to be connected but
doesn't work. I have attached the output of "ifcong", "route" and a ping
