The original 12.04LTS installation CD does NOT work, I may be remembering

3.2.0-35-generic-pae lately.
Each time ubuntu updates kernel, the laptop looses wireless connection. the fix
is:
cd /usr/src/compat-wireless-3.6.2-1
sudo make
sudo make install
sudo reboot
This resolves the problem until

I have rebuilt drivers at least twice since reporting this, and after automatic
update, a bad version of the driver
updates my wifes machine, so I have to rebuild drivers after each update. Since
this happens repeatedly I
infer not many people use Ubuntu LTS on NEW computers.

sudo make install
sudo reboot
each time the kernel (components) change. When ubuntu updates, the PC looses
wireless connectivity UNTIL I HAVE RERUN
