I am having a similar problem with Intel graphics. It looks like the
kernel won't go into KMS mode after a recent "apt-get dist-upgrade" --
the console stays in the standard 25x80 text mode (whereas before with
KMS it would go into a much higher-res text mode), and X won't start,

Recently updated to a KMS kernel & X driver in Karmic on my Thinkpad
W500 with Intel graphics.

1. After DPMS activates (e.g. xset s activate), I often (but not always)

After upgrading to Jaunty, this laptop frequently fails to suspend or
resume (about every other time). There are a few failure modes:
(1) White screen and unresponsive to keyboard input (e.g. Ctrl-Alt-F1) upon
suspend, never goes to sleep

Variety of suspend/resume problems on this machine, but this particular
one involved trying to suspend by closing the lid. The laptop wouldn't
suspend, and it seems that the wireless driver (iwlagn) crashed.
ifconfig would block uninterruptibly, and rmmod iwlagn would similar

A long shot, but do you have Intel's TXT feature enabled in your BIOS?
If so, you may want to try disabling it. I have found that to cause
problems resuming a second time on an IBM Thinkpad.

In my case, I was able to get the laptop to resume from suspend-to-RAM
more than once by disabling the "Intel TXT Feature" in the BIOS (it's
under the "Security" and then "Security Chip" menus). Hope that helps.

When trying to suspend-to-ram or hibernate on either a T500 and a W500
(with integrated Intel graphics selected in the BIOS on the W500), 8.10
