I had the same issue happen to me today. Using a new Inspiron 1545,
dualing with Windows 7 and Kubuntu 9.10.
The culprit is clearly the Dell DataSafe Local Backup. It only occurred
after it requested to be up
Uninstalling "xubuntu-gdm-theme" does solve the problem for me. If your
running gnome, maybe there is a similar package ... ubuntu-gdm-theme?
I am gonna wait for a fix before reinstalling it again.
Cheers

Ubuntu 9.04, Sony Vaio VGN-SR39VN, sound problem.
I followed instructions on " Jaunty 9.04 Sound Solutions" at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130384
to try and resolve a microphone problem.
Before I did so sounds played ok. Now the only sound output is a
crackle.
Ok I finally found the cause for that problem.
When I move the mouse during the double click it will be recognized as a
"double click" and as a "drag and drop".
To reproduce this:
1. open totem
2. add multiple files to playlist
3. play file
4. click in the area where the video is displayed
5. mov
