I had this problem as well, starting with the welcome screens during the
install. I believe it is something wrong in the Xorg video driver. My
video card is a Maxwell based nVidia GTX 750 Ti. Despite the menus being
almost completely illegible, I was able to navigate to the Settings
Manager / Addit
Finally upgraded from 14.04 to 14.10 (mm v1.2), then 15.04 (mm v1.4).
Tested my Pantech device with each version. Even with Vivid, I still
have to regress my modem manager to version 0.5.2.0-0 in order for my
Pantech UML295W to work.

I have recently been having trouble with getting Wine1.7 to coexist with
driver 331.113-updates, forced to regress to the non-updates tested
version. I suspect the background upgrade problem may be related to
Wine. No one has yet made the connection here. Might be worth looking
at.

To follw up, I had to do a fresh install of 14.04 to clear out the
multiple instances. I was having other wierd things going on anyway.
What I can say is that the problem, at least in my case because I was
running Nvidia 337.xx on 12.04 for crypto currency mining, may have
stemmed from not properly
I am running xubuntu-default-settings 14.04.5 and I assure you all, this
bug is not "fixed". I still have two instances of "Additional Drivers"
In Settings Manager and one instance that I do not want of "Nvidia X
Server Settings" even after a full purge and reboot.

I'm using 10.04 Lucid; other ubuntu versions are probably similar.
The temp fix may or may not work for all udf types.
The bug seems to be caused by auto-mount.
Auto-mount tries to mount udf dvd as type udf.
However, udf dvd-video should be mounted as type iso9660.
A temp fix is to manually mount
By the way I am not sure if I should mark this bug as invalid, however
the fact that only after a reboot the drivers were shown is a bit
intriguing.
