The applet is back on my panel but I'll give some information.
Before an update yesterday, I was able to see the applet simply by using the
2.6.27-7-generic kernel (intrepid).
However, it wasn't here after a reboot with the jaunty kernel.
Maybe the issue was caused by my hardware : an intel chip
I read the ~/.xsession-errors but nothing concerning the mixer-applet.
Since I don't know how to use gdb, could you tell me how to do it ?
I tried to figure out the command-line to show the applets-dialog, and I found

I'll join two types of files.
Those ending with "OK" are coming from a fresh boot, with the card working.
Those ending with "NotOk" are coming from a reboot after having launched

I tried with totem-gstreamer with the nvidia et nv drivers. No bugs
noticed (only the fact that after having downloaded the correct
gstreamer packages advised by totem-gstreamer, I had to reload the
soft).
However, the bug is always there when using the xine engine, using the
nvidia or nv driver.

First, I have made a bad analysis of the bug, the problem isn't coming from the
updating of adept.
