Sorry - forgot to add:
I've been using Ubuntu since 7.10 and have had it installed on the same netbook
(an MSI Wind variant) updating every time - this is the first pulse-audio issue
that I've had, so I don't think that it's an issue with an unsupported card or
whatnot.
FYI, here's the lspci:

I have the same problem.
Just a thought bbordwell - do you have a small MP4 video that you could attach
here for us to test against? That is probably going to be a better way than
trying to attach a hi-def 300-1200Mb file of ours?
I'll happily run the test and add a listing of everything you wan

OK I just did the latest Lucid updates from the Update Manager (no
proposed, just important) and it seems that the problem has now gone
away - when I click on the broadcast messages menu item, Gwibber starts
and there's only one menu item and only one gwibber-service in the ps

I have this issue as well.
I have:
gwibber: 2.30.0.1-0ubuntu1
indicator-applet: 0.3.6-0ubuntu2
indicator-messages: 0.3.6-0ubuntu2
- checked in Synaptic package manager.
When I start, there is only 1 Broadcast Messages item on the Mail indicator.
When I click it, it starts the Gwibber interface.
I tested with the new RC Lucid download to obtain the extra information
you wanted and the sound now works completely. Something's done the
trick, so this can be closed. Thanks for your time.
