Same problem: OpenOffice 2.3, Kubuntu 7.10, on an Acer TM2480 laptop: The toolbars and menu bar disappear, and only the item under the cursor becomes visible. Dropdowns go blank as soon as the cursor touches them, then only the item under the cursor appears. This began as an intermittant problem
