Hi all,
Found that there is an equivalent - almost identical thumbnailer setup
for Mate.
Still locate /usr/share/thmbnailers/raw.thumbnailer.
only the Exec line is different in that /usr/bin/thumbnail is used in
stead of gnome.

smb.conf file as requested.
Runs fine with smbd.
Samba4 has the error.
I hope this is of some use.
I changed the permissions to get it across a windows network.

I ran
strace nautilus
to see if there is more info, and the program worked flawlessy and
allowed me to set the 'open with correctly' - no idea why this worked.

Me too with NEF.
But found still able to close parent window, then I lose Desktop icons
till next nautilus restart.

This Bug looks to be the same as I got last week, it was marked as a duplicate.
My solution/ workaround - not fix was apt-get remove samba4 , then apt-get
install samba.
This allowed the use of all my earlier settings as I had them.
I am no expert on this, but I thought this may get you going. :

One of my attempts at a work around was to replace the smb.conf file
from another machine running precise, and modify the machine specific
details, such as the 'interfaces' line, and the name of service. this

I have had this error a few times, first on an upgrade, I thought I might have
had an old config file as a remnant.
So I tried full removal & and reinstall of the samba related packages.
